I understand the need to stay flexible in the way we work in these uncertain times. This is why, as well as face to face sessions, I also offer therapy via the internet, using Zoom and/ or over the phone.  In order for you to get a sense of what it might be like to work with me in these ways I offer a free session to all new clients. I also offer a discounted rate for those on a low income. Please get in touch for more details.

Counselling in Steyning

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website.

My name is Ellie. I am a fully qualified counsellor with a private practice in Steyning, West Sussex. I specialise in counselling on a one-to-one basis with young people and adults, from a wide variety of backgrounds. I have a wealth of experience in education and it is my experience as an educator, working with young people, families and adults that led me into a career in counselling.

I am a fully insured, registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and subscribe to their Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. I also hold a current, enhanced DBS certificate for my work with young people and children.

Why we might seek counselling

We all have times when we feel that life is getting on top of us. This is a natural part of all our realities, and our movement through these times is part of our overall growth and development as a person. Often we can successfully negotiate these difficult times or events ourselves, but sometimes we may decide that we need some help. This is the kind of help, facilitation and support that I aim to provide.

The Humanistic Counselling approach that I take is well documented in helping with many of the following areas:

· Stress
· Relationships
· Anxiety
· Bereavement
· Depression
· Addiction
· Confidence
· Redundancy
· Low self esteem
· Family issues
· Feeling overwhelmed

What to expect from me as a counsellor

A single counselling session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place once a week. You may choose to have a few sessions over a short period of time, perhaps for just a matter of weeks to get you through a difficult time. However, you may like to work with me for a longer period, or maybe you just need support every now and then.

I will spend this time with you in the relaxed, comfortable setting of my therapy room. I will commit my time with you to listening without making judgement, in order to develop a holistic understanding of you as a unique human being. We will work together in confidentiality so that we can further understand what has brought you to counselling. In the safe space of the therapy room we can begin experimenting with ways of being that may alleviate future unease, in order to find more satisfying and fulfilling ways of living your life.

Your first appointment

Your first appointment will be a free 30 minute consultation. Before this initial meeting you may, quite naturally, feel a little uneasy. I will do my best to put you at ease and we will use this opening session as an opportunity for us to meet each other and to see if we would like to work together. I will ask you some questions in this session and establish what you would like to get out of counselling. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions that you may have.

What to do next if you would like to receive counselling

You can get in contact with me by phone, text or e-mail. I am more than happy to speak with you on the phone prior to the first session to answer any questions you may have.

My counselling practice is based in Steyning, West Sussex within easy reach of Brighton, Worthing, Lancing, Henfield, Shoreham, Hurstpierpoint, Beeding, Storrington, Washington, Ashington, Ashurst, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and other surrounding areas.
